A New Digital Thermometer that Keeps a Record on Your Smart Phone

I recently attended the National Conference of the American Academy of Pediatrics in Washington, D.C. In addition to the excellent educational lectures and seminars I attended, a browse though the Exhibitors at the conference revealed some very interesting technology. One of these is the Kinsa Smart Digital Thermometer for oral, rectal or underarm use. It's water resistant for safe cleaning. Although the thermometer probe can be directly inserted into one's Smart Phone giving the appearance of a long antenna, it also has an optional extension cord for ease of use. No batteries are needed as it is powered by your phone. It displays temperature in degrees F or C.

What most appealed to me about this thermometer is its software for your phone which will keep a fever record as you take temperature. You can record when you give fever meds and doses. You can record symptoms and observations about how your child feels. You can record this information for all your family members on your phone. All of this information can be transmitted by email to your doctor as needed or as requested by the doctor.

Although this information may not be needed for every illness by your doctor, I see this as a very useful tool between parent and physician when monitoring the fever is important for diagnostic or treatment purposes.

Check it out and let me know what you think of it.
