BEFORE SURGICAL PROCEDURE/ANESTHESIA SEDATION
(Failure to follow the guidelines stated below could delay your treatment)
- You MUST NOT eat or drink anything EIGHT HOURS BEFORE YOUR SURGICAL PROCEDURE.
- Take your BLOOD PRESSURE medication at the normal scheduled time with a sip of water, EVEN IF IT IS THE MORNING OF THE PROCEDURE.
- If you take a blood thinner, follow the directions as given by your prescribing physician and surgeon, Dr. Stigall.
- If you take coumadin (Jantoven or Warfarin), you will need a PT/INR 24 hours before the procedure!
- DIABETIC patients on ORAL MEDICATION should not take them in the morning.
- DIABETIC patient on insulin should take half the normal units of LONG ACTING insulin and check glucose in the morning, if blood sugar is 150 or above, then morning dose of regular insulin may be taken. IF blood sugar is 149 or less, HOLD morning dose of regular insulin the day of surgery.
- BRING your glucometer and insulin the morning of the procedure
- Asthmatic patients must bring their inhaler with them.
- You must have a responsible adult, 18 or older, that brings you to the appointment, stays during the appointment, and drives you home after the appointment.
- Minors MUST HAVE a parent or legal guardian with them during the procedure for proper consent.
- You CANNOT take a bus or taxi to your appointment.
- You should arrange for someone to stay with you for 24 hours after the procedure.
- Wear loose fitting clothes, please no makeup, lipstick, or nail polish.
- Please try to wear a shirt where the sleeve can be rolled up past the elbow.
