Your pediatrician has the answers you need. Dr. Clifford Seyler at Royal Pediatrics, Tullahoma Pediatrics, and Manchester Pediatrics provides a wide range of medical care for children, including treatment and management of fever. He has three convenient office locations in Fayetteville, Tullahoma, and Manchester, TN, to help you and your child.

What You Need To Know About Fever in Children

Having a fever is a common sign associated with a virus like a cold or the flu or a bacterial infection like strep throat. If your child has a mild fever, you can treat it yourself with a few simple steps. You can:

  • Give your child infant or children’s Tylenol, NOT aspirin
  • Give your child a cool sponge bath
  • Apply cold washcloths to your child’s skin
  • Have your child suck on popsicles

A fever can become concerning and can be a sign of a more serious medical condition. You should bring your child to visit the pediatrician if your child’s fever is:

  • 100.4 degrees or higher if your child is under 4 months old
  • 104 degrees or higher if your child is over 4 months old
  • Still present after 2 to 3 days or is getting more severe

A fever is only one sign of illness or infection. Your child also needs to be evaluated by a pediatrician if the fever is accompanied by:

  • Bruising or a rash
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Constant crying
  • A stiff neck or seizure
  • Pain while urinating
  • Decreased urine output

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s fever, call your pediatrician or schedule an appointment.
