MIDWEST ENT UPDATE 9/29/2020

As we approach fall and winter, we wish to update you on your ear nose and throat health. We recommend that you have your humidifiers inspected and cleaned. If you don't have one, this may be a good time to purchase. When heaters go on, so should humidifiers. In addition, nasal saline sprays and netty pots often times aid in healthy noses and throats. It is becoming increasingly well known how important good nasal breathing is for our overall health. I am sending a link to a recent story aired on CBS News, featuring James Nestor, author of the recent book, "Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art". It is very insightful and I hope you enjoy it.

We continue to take very strict COVID precautions. We have had no cases as a result anyone coming to our office or having surgery with us at Northwestern Hospital.
Flu season is rapidly approaching and strongly encourage the flu vaccine.
We are very pleased with our results of the Inspire(inspiresleep.com)procedure for sleep apnea. This has proven to be an excellent outpatient procedure for those who are not getting good results with CPAP.
As always, we offer a full range of services for your hearing health. We provide the most current technology for testing your hearing and providing the most appropriate hearing aids for each individual.
Please feel free to call the office(312-988-7777) for further information on all of the above or to set up an appointment. You may also send individual emails through our patient portal.

Wishing you all good health and safety,

Sleep Apnea Treatments In 2021

Have you recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea?

Are you one of the millions of Americans who wake up exhausted, toss and turn at night, or deal with disruptive snoring caused by sleep apnea? Untreated or unmanaged sleep apnea can wreak havoc on your health and wellbeing, increasing your risk for heart attacks, stroke, and diabetes. Fortunately, your Chicago, IL, doctor Dr. Gordon Siegel offers innovative and unique solutions to help get your sleep apnea under control.

CPAP is One Way…But It’s Not the Only Way

CPAP therapy remains the “gold standard” when it comes to treating sleep apnea. However, it’s not the only option and it’s not always the most effective solution. This is something that your ENT doctor in Chicago, IL, would be happy to discuss with you. Sometimes CPAP isn’t effective for treating sleep apnea, and some patients simply aren’t ideal candidates for this treatment. That’s okay! Our team here at Midwest Ear Nose and Throat offers alternative sleep apnea treatment options such as SomnoGuard Oral Appliance Therapy and the Inspire procedure to those living in and around the Chicagoland area.

What is SomnoGuard Oral Appliance Therapy?

This custom-fitted clear dental appliance fits in your mouth like a standard nightguard or mouthguard, but it works to reposition your jaws while you sleep to keep airways open and free from obstructions. This device is typically great for patients dealing with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) but can also be used in conjunction with CPAP therapy for patients who aren’t getting full relief from their symptoms with CPAP alone.

What is Inspire?

Inspire is the only FDA-approved treatment that treats the cause of sleep apnea. You click a button and a subdermal implant helps keep your airways open so you can breathe normally throughout the night without any issues. If you still feel exhausted and drained every morning despite using CPAP therapy, then you might be an ideal candidate for Inspire.

If you want to discuss your sleep apnea treatment options with your  ENT doctors, then call Midwest Ear Nose and Throat in Chicago, IL, today at (312) 988-7777 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Siegel. We want to help you get a better night’s sleep, every night.
