High-Tech Dentistry with aGentle Touch

From routine cleanings and tooth colored fillings to extractions and teeth replacements, the practice of Bloom & Wygodski Family Dentistry is equipped to handle your dental needs. To help you understand your options, we’ve included descriptions of some of our most common services on this page.

Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take digital x-rays, which include a Full Mouth Series of X-rays and/or a Panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for proper diagnosis of decay. We believe in taking the minimum amount of x-rays needed to reduce excess radiation (even though digital x-rays have much less radiation than conventional x-rays).

Implants
Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures.

Bonding

Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth. We can often replace crowns that show metal with newer modern materials, such as EMax and Zirconium, which are also stronger than regular porcelain crowns and resist chipping.

Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When decay in a tooth has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth are weakened, crowns are often used to restore the tooth.

Teeth Whitening

Toothaches
Simple toothaches can often be relieved by rinsing the mouth to clear it of debris and other matter. Sometimes, a toothache can be caused or aggravated by a piece of debris lodged between the tooth and another tooth. Avoid placing an aspirin between your tooth and gum to relieve pain, because the dissolving aspirin can actually burn your gum tissue.

We are Laser Certified!

One of the latest advances in dentistry is the use of laser technology. Lasers can't replace traditional instruments for some procedures, but give us one more tool to make dental treatment more comfortable for our patients.

We are proud that Drs. Bloom and Wygodski are certified on the Waterlase and LightWalker hard and soft tissue dental lasers.

Our laser works by energizing water molecules to do the cutting while at the same time numbing the tooth. One of the most exciting uses is to prepare teeth for fillings, sometimes without any shots and certainly without the whining and vibration of the traditional drill.

Lasers are used to treat gum disease by killing bacteria, and can help patients avoid surgery. When surgery is unavoidable, lasers are so precise in dental treatment that there isn't nearly as much swelling around tissue, often no need for stiches and, most importantly, much less discomfort afterwards, if any.

We have used lasers to immediately get rid of the pain of cold sores and canker sores, and help them heal in just a few days. Lasers are being used in root canal treatments to shorten the time you spend in the chair.

As another laser dentist remarked, "The dental laser is the most profound enhancement in dental technology in decades and is paving the way for the next generation of better, more comfortable dentistry. Not since the electric drill was introduced in 1875 and Novocaine was invented in 1905, has there been a more important development in dentistry."

We have another diagnostic laser called the Diagnodent that uses light energy to find decay before it is detectable with a probe or even x-rays. Because we can now find and treat cavities when they are smaller, this dramatically decreases the need for shots and more extensive (and expensive) treatments like root canals and crowns.

The World Clinical Laser Institute (where Drs. Bloom and Wygodski have received training), estimates that only 5 % of dentists are using lasers but the numbers are growing. We may still be the only dental office in Florida certified to use the Lightwalker laser. For more info log onto Fotona Laser Dentistry

We offer FDA approved treatment of headaches and jaw pain

In some cases, headaches and migraines are caused by tension from clenching or grinding in your sleep. When this happens, wearing a device at night called an NTI appliance takes the pressure off your jaw and eliminates or reduces the headaches or migraines.

This is the first FDA approved non-drug treatment of migraines. The NTI-tss is a small, virtually invisible mouthpiece that covers only your upper front teeth while you sleep. This appliance may be indicated for daytime wear also.

If you suffer from chronic headaches or wake with sore jaw muscles, be sure to ask us about the NTI - we have had our patients call it nothing short of miraculous.

We would be happy to discuss your individual concerns and needs to determine if the NTI or other type of mouthguard we provide is best for treating your condition - please call to set up a consultation appointment with Dr. Bloom - please bring with you any current mouthguards you own.
