ADHD Evaluation: What To Expect

ADHD Evaluation: What To Expect

ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. It can affect children and adults, causing difficulties with focus, organization, time management, and social skills.

At Valle Verde Pediatrics in Poway, CA, our experienced healthcare professionals Dr. Rendler and Dr. Tai can help diagnose ADHD and provide treatment options such as medication, therapy, and behavior management strategies. We also offer guidance and support for families and caregivers dealing with ADHD, helping them understand the condition and develop effective coping strategies. With our comprehensive approach, we aim to help our patients with ADHD thrive and succeed in all aspects of their lives.

ADHD Evaluation: What To Expect

During an ADHD evaluation, you can expect to answer a few questions about your child's behaviors and symptoms. Our physician may ask about the child's behavior at home and school, plus their medical and family history. They may also ask for input from the child's teacher or other caregivers, perform a physical exam and other tests to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms, and assess the child's cognitive and psychological functioning.

For the child, the evaluation may involve taking tests or completing questionnaires that assess attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. We may also observe the child's behavior during the appointment. We ensure to make them feel comfortable and relaxed during the evaluation to get an accurate picture of their behavior.

After the evaluation for ADHD, our physician will discuss their findings with the parents and make recommendations for treatment, which may include medication, therapy, and behavioral interventions. The provider will also work with the family and the child's school to develop a management plan to help the child succeed.

Consult Our Pediatrician

Consider consulting Valle Verde Pediatrics if you suspect your child may have ADHD if the symptoms have been present for at least six months and are causing significant impairment in their functioning.

During the consultation, our pediatrician will gather information about the child's symptoms, medical and family history, and other relevant factors. They may also conduct physical and neurological exams, plus other psychological evaluations, to help confirm or rule out a diagnosis of ADHD. Treatment options may include medication, therapy, and behavioral interventions, which we will discuss with you and your child.
