Warts in Beachwood and Middleburg Heights, OH
Warts
are caused by a virus that you can catch by going barefoot in public
showers, locker rooms, and in public pool areas. Children and
teenagers have a higher risk of developing warts, as do people with a
compromised immune system. Plantar warts are a type of wart that
forms on your feet. Plantar warts can be treated effectively by your
podiatrist.
Characteristics of warts
Warts can look like rough bumps and can sometimes occur in clumps. They are found most frequently on your hands, forefeet, heels, or toes. They can resemble a callus and they have a small black dot in the middle which is actually a group of blood vessels that have clotted.
How long warts can last
Some warts may go away on their own, and others may take months or years to go away. Some warts may stay indefinitely.
How warts can affect you
Warts may develop into open sores on the ridges and lines in your feet. They may also cause pain when you stand or walk around.
Treatment of warts
A podiatrist is an expert at treating and eliminating warts. Common professional treatments for warts include using topical salicylic acid solutions to peel the wart away layer-by-layer, using liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart, or using a pulse dye laser to heat the blood vessels which supply the wart. Once the blood vessels are destroyed, cells no longer multiply. The wart dies from a lack of new cells.
