Dental veneers offer a simple way to change the appearance of one tooth or all of them.

The Advantages of Dental Veneers

Some dental problems are fairly straightforward. For simple staining and discoloration, a few professional tooth whitening procedures can do the trick. A broken or severely decayed tooth can be repaired with a crown, and orthodontic treatment can fix significant alignment problems for crooked and unevenly spaced teeth. For the more subtle dental issues that may not require braces or dental caps but still affect the cosmetic quality of the teeth, porcelain veneers offer the perfect solution.

Veneers hide imperfections

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are attached to the front surfaces of teeth. Although they're no thicker than a fingernail, veneers easily conceal a range of dental flaws, including:

  • Slight gaps between teeth
  • Chips
  • Discoloration or root canals
  • Crooked or oddly shaped teeth
  • Short teeth

Whitening your smile is easy with veneers

Eating and drinking brightly colored foods, such as coffee, tea, wine, cola, popsicles, and berries can stain your teeth. Although teeth whitening can improve the appearance of your smile, the results must be touched up occasionally, and whitening may not lighten your teeth quite as much as you expected. Veneers provide long-lasting results and allow you to choose the shade of white you prefer.

The veneer process only takes two appointments

After your initial consultation, you'll only need to return to the dentist's office twice to receive your new veneers. During the first appointment, your dentist will file the front of your tooth slightly. This step is essential and ensures that your veneer doesn't feel bulky. After your tooth is filed, your dentist makes an impression of your teeth. A dental laboratory uses the impression to create a veneer that will fit your tooth perfectly. It usually takes about two to three weeks to create veneers. Until it's ready, you'll wear temporary veneers.

Several Dental Problems, One Solution

Cosmetic dentistry has been described as both an art and a science, and for good reason. Fixing imperfections like small chips and cracks, and reshaping the size and shape of a tooth while preserving the look, feel, and structure of the natural teeth requires a great degree of skill and precision. Made of a thin layer of porcelain, veneers are designed to replicate the properties of a tooth's natural surface. Veneers are also incredibly easy to maintain and care for, requiring the same daily brushing and flossing routine as natural teeth.

When your new veneers arrive, you'll return to the office. Your dentist will attach the veneer and check the fit. After any necessary adjustments are made, your veneer will be permanently attached to your teeth with dental cement and cured with a special light.
