Good oral hygiene is extremely important for individuals of all ages. Oral hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth and teeth clean in order to prevent such issues as cavities, tooth decay, infections, and gingivitis.

General dentistry procedures include

Cleanings – The removal of plaque from teeth to prevent problems such as cavities, gum disease, and gingivitis. General cleanings should be scheduled every 6 months.

Fillings – Fillings are used to treat cavities, and also cracked or broken teeth. The dentist will remove the area of decay and then “fill” that area with a tooth-colored filling.

Tooth Extractions – An extraction may be necessary for a tooth that is severely damaged. An oral surgeon or your dentist can perform this procedure. Recovery time is typically only a few days.

Root Canals (Endodontic Treatment) – When a tooth is badly decayed or becomes infected, a root canal may be the best treatment. Without the treatment, the surrounding tissue may become infected.
