Origin: the forepart of the superolateral surface of the Calcaneus; lateral talocalcaneal ligament and cruciate crural ligament;
Insertion: branches into 3 tendons that insert into the lateral sides of the tendons of EDLof 2nd, 3rd, & 4th toes at the level
of the MTP joint;
Action: extends the proximal phalanges of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th toes.
Nerve Supply: Deep Peroneal, L4, L5, S1
Synergist: EDL
Discussion:
- w/ certain modifications and exceptions, the muscles and fasciae of the foot are comparable to those of the hand;
- w/ no counterpart in the upper limb, the extensor digitorum brevis on dorsum sends a tendon to each of the four medial toes
