Platelet Rich Plasma "Vampire Facial" (PRP) is a treatment whereby a person’s own blood is used. Approximately 10 ml (2TBSP) is removed from the patient via a venipuncture.  The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma portion from the red and white cells.  The PRP is applied to the skin and then microneedled into the specified areas.  The PRP is a collection of growth factors from your own blood.  There should be no side effects from the material microneedled.  The body reacts to the treated cells as it does to a wound and immediately begins the healing process with the inflammatory phase of tissue healing.  The tissue response includes utilizing stem cells and growth factors to produce new collagen.  As the collagen matures, it begins to shrink causing tightening and strengthening of the microneedled area.

This builds the underlying tissue with tightening, smoothing and increased blood flow.  It may take 5-7 days to heal from microneedling.  The benefits of PRP microneedling are from actual growth of new tissue, so the effects are not from foreign material being injected into the body.  The full procedure takes approximately one hour.  Generally, 2-3 treatments every 3 months are advised, however, more may be needed for some individuals.  Touch up treatment may be done yearly after the initial treatments to maintain the results.

PRP has been shown to have overall rejuvenating effects on the skin in improving skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, increasing volume via increased collagen elastin production, by diminishing and improving the appearance of scars.  Other benefits include minimal down time, safe with minimal risk, natural looking results, no general anesthesia required.
