Dental Implants
Implants are the modern way to replace lost teeth. They are the best way to replace missing teeth as they act just like real teeth. Just as teeth are attached to the jaw, so are implants. No teeth have to be damaged for the sake of adding missing teeth. Implants generally have a huge success rate.
Scaling and Root Planing
Frequently referred to as “deep cleaning”, this procedure is performed in cases of minor gum disease. It is usually done in two office visits following an initial consultation.
Osseous Surgery
This is a procedure to remove the diseased gum tissues in more advanced cases of periodontal disease. This type of gum surgery is designed to eliminate the gum “pockets” by removing them. It also provides the ability to clean in areas that are not accessible to standard non-surgical procedures.
Extractions
The removal of teeth. Not every tooth can be saved. For the hopeless teeth, extraction is the only answer to fight off pain and disease. Areas where teeth are removed are often grafted to preserve esthetics and to allow for future implant placement.
Bone Grafting and Regeneration
These procedures are designed to rebuild lost bone and tooth attachment. This can involve use of a special bone grafting material and a protective membrane. Grafting can also be performed after tooth removal to improve esthetics or to provide bone for a dental implant.
Gum Grafting
This is a procedure to add gum tissue where it has been lost. Gum recession can occur for different reasons but repairing these areas of damage can be accomplished by soft tissue grafting.
Crown Lengthening
This is a procedure designed to make a tooth repairable by your dentist. Broken teeth can reach under the gums making repair impossible. This procedure moves the gum so that the tooth is more exposed. This allows your dentist to save the tooth.
Periodontal Maintenance and Implant Maintenance
So who takes care of everything once it is done? Periodontists are different from other surgeons in that supportive future care is always the norm. In order for dental treatment to last, it needs to be maintained. A strong recall program is established between our office and your general dentist to provide high quality long term care.
Treatment of Gum Disease
Treating gum disease starts with the removal of any plaque and hardened deposits (tartar or calculus) on the tooth root surfaces. This may be followed by other non-surgical treatments and/or periodontal surgery to remove diseased tissue and restore your mouth to the best possible health.
