WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR VISIT
There may be some discomfort during and after the injection. Juvederm is injected directly into the skin with a fine needle. Juvederm products contain the local anesthetic lidocaine to help lessen discomfort during injection and Dr. Shivani Pandit will also numb the site prior to injection.
WHAT IS EXPECTED AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Do not massage the area for the next 24 hours - try to avoid touching it at all other than to wash your face the evening following your injection. Wash gently, do not scrub, and dab dry gently.
Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (sunbathing or in a tanning bed) or extreme cold.
Avoid strenuous exercise following the injection as bruising and swelling is more likely.
Avoid alcohol following the augmentation as bruising and swelling is more likely.
If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another occurrence.
Ice packs or cool, damp washcloths may be applied on or around the treated areas. This will lessen the amount of swelling, bruising and pain. Use ice for up to 45 minutes out of each waking hour for the first 24 hours. An easy schedule to follow is 20 minutes on/20 minutes off.
If a visible lump is seen, massage may be used to lessen the bump after two days.
Side effects are mild to moderate an may include bruising, swelling, redness, pain, firmness and bumps. These generally will clear up on their own in 5-7 days.
Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications, St John's Wort or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment, unless it is recommended by your physician. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
