How long does an Invisalign process take

Invisalign aligners from your Overland Park, KS dentist Dr. Michelle Deutch may more comfortable, convenient, and natural looking than traditional metal braces, but you know you don’t want to wear them any longer than you have to. Thankfully, you don't have to.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Invisalign

On average, Overland Park adults who visit Dr. Deutch can generally expect to wear their Invisalign aligners for one year. This amount  can vary significantly, however, depending on the age of the wearer and the amount of correction that needs to take place. If you only have a few teeth that need to be adjusted and your case is very simple, you may only need to wear your aligners for as little as four to six months. However, if your teeth require a lot of corrections, you may need to wear your aligners for as long as eighteen months.

How Do They to Traditional Metal Braces?

Invisalign offers several serious advantages over traditional metal braces. Not only is Invisalign practically invisible and removable, but the length of time it takes to work may be reduced as well. While Invisalign typically takes one year or 18 months at most, traditional metal braces can take as long as one to two years to complete the process.

However, this reduced time frame doesn't necessarily mean that Invisalign works better than traditional metal braces. Invisalign is typically not recommended for the most severe cases, so the shortened time frame may just be because the cases are typically simpler.

What   Factors Determine   How Long Invisalign Will Take?

While one year is average, the actual amount of time that your Invisalign treatment will take depends on a number of factors. The most important factor is the amount of correction that needs to take place. If you have several teeth that are badly out of alignment, your treatment will almost certainly take longer than if you only had a few teeth that were slightly crooked.

Also, the dedication with which you wear your aligners can have a huge impact as well. Your Overland Park dentist, Dr. Deutch, will likely advise you to wear your aligners between 18 and 22 hours a day. Forget or neglect to wear your aligners, and not only will your teeth not make additional progress, but they could even begin to shift back into their original positions, making the process take even longer.

Only your Overland Park, KS dentist can let you know exactly how long Invisalign will take. If you would like to know more about the process or if you would like to set up an appointment to begin treatment, call Dr. Michelle Deutch today.
