History of the practice in general
Dr. Sohail started cardiology practice in 1999 under his family name, "Ellahi Heart Clinic" and relocated in 2004 to the Arlington area. Heart and Sleep Clinics of America was founded in 2017 under the original clinic umbrella to improve public awareness of the connection and frequent coexistence between heart diseases and sleep apnea, acknowledging the profound and irreparable impact in form of disability or even loss of life if left undiagnosed and untreated.

Principal owners of the practice and the medical experience

ATIF SOHAIL, MD, FACC
Board certified in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiac CT, as well as prior certifications in internal medicine and nuclear cardiology.

After graduating and training from King Edward medical college, a prestigious medical school in Lahore, Pakistan, Dr. Sohail relocated to Britain for postgraduate education, and after several years of additional training and obtaining the membership of the Royal College, he moved to the U.S. to train in cardiology and went into clinical practice in 1999, bringing cross-cultural experience and depth of clinical training along with a dedicated team of highly trained staff and nurse practitioners in close collaboration with other allied specialties.

Practice specialization areas
Comprehensive cardiology practice offering state of the art cardiovascular testing and treatment in both outpatient and in-hospital environment, as well as home-based or in-lab sleep testing and treatment.

Professional philosophy of the practice
All-inclusive care of the cardiac patient with a personalized and simplified patient-centered approach utilizing a strong clinical foundation, dedicated and caring team of workers, and appropriate utilization of testing and treatment modalities.

What sets the practice apart as special
Keeping on the cutting edge of clinical care and maintaining a very high index of suspicion for undiagnosed sleep apnea given its high prevalence in cardiac patients remains the hallmark of this practice and the basis of our motto, "connecting the dots between heart & sleep…"

I had always had an interest in sleep apnea and heart diseases, and in the last decade this awareness had become much more acute as I tested and treated a large number of cardiac patients and found sleep apnea to be highly prevalent. Further treatment resulted in dramatic clinical improvements.

Drastic outcomes like stroke, brain hemorrhage, heart attack, uncontrolled blood pressure, roadside accidents, and even sudden death remain an important reason to maintain this dedicated and cutting edge approach with high suspicion of sleep apnea. We offer early sleep testing in people with heart disease and at-risk categories, and on the same token get cardiac evaluation in patients with established sleep apnea or suffering from symptoms highly suspect for sleep apnea.
