Lip augmentation, also called lip enhancement, can give you fuller, more defined lips. Lip augmentation improves the appearance of your lips by adding shape, definition, and volume. Dr. Elseweifi in Chicago uses many treatment options for lip augmentation.
Should you Consider Lip augmentation?
You should consider lip augmentation if you answer yes to any of the following questions:
- Do you have thin lips that disappear when you smile?
- Have your lip been thinning as you age or due to tooth loss?
- Are you self-conscious about the look of your lips?
- Do you have vertical lines above and below your lips?
How is lip augmentation performed?
There are many options for lip augmentation. The options include dermal fillers, thread lift, and botox. After a detailed exam, Dr. Elseweifi may recommend two or more of these treatment options to achieve the right look for your lips.
Dermal fillers for lip augmentation
Dermal fillers, also called face fillers, are injected into the lips to add volume and definition. One injection session is usually sufficient to produce the good result. The results, however, may be temporary and require repeat injections. On average, results can be expected to last up to six months. Dr. Elseweifi uses several brands of dermal fillers for the lips, including Belotero and Juvederm. Dr. Elseweifi also uses blunt tip cannulas, to lessen the risk of bruising.
Thread lift for lip augmentation
Thread lift is used for enhancing the definition of the vermilion border of the lips. It is a great option when the lips have good volume. Thread lift is also used to treat vertical lip lines. Results usually last for several years. Dr. Elseweifi uses Nova Threads for thread lift treatment.
Botox – vertical lip lines
Botox and Xeomin injections to treat vertical lip lines. The injections relax the muscle around the mouth, which reduce the appearance of lip lines. Botox and Xeomin injections are also used for the depressor anguli oris muscle to correct down turned corners of the mouth (sad mouth). Results usually last 3-4 months. Dr. Elseweifi also uses Belotero injection for stubborn etched vertical lip lines.
Is lip augmentation painful?
Dr. Elseweifi uses nerve block anesthesia before lip augmentation to prevent discomfort from the procedure.
Recovery from lip augmentation:
Many patients can immediately return to their normal routine. Some patients may experience some bruising or swelling. This can be reduced by using cold compresses.
Complications of lip augmentation:
Lip augmentation with dermal filler injection can result in asymmetric lips. This can easily be corrected by injection of more dermal fillers to achieve symmetry.
Other complications include a smaller lip than what you expected. This can also be corrected by injection of more dermal filler.
Lip augmentation compliments other facial rejuvenation options.
