Invisible Braces Available at Our Kitchener Dentist

Invisalign, the invisible braces system, makes straightening your teeth easier than ever before. While it still takes commitment to a long-term treatment plan, Invisalign is practically invisible – which means you do not need to show the world you are straightening your teeth unless you want to. Because they are so much more visually appealing than standard braces, more and more people are seeking invisible braces. As your Kitchener dentist, we are your resource for Invisalign!

An Innovation in Cosmetic Dentistry

The tools available for cosmetic dentistry, particularly teeth straightening, have improved quite a bit in recent years. While metal braces are effective, and still necessary in certain cases, invisible braces offer a way to straighten teeth that do not require wearing metal wires in your mouth. Instead, you wear clear plastic aligners that shift the position of your teeth over time.

After a few weeks, you switch to another pair of aligners that continue shifting your teeth. Approximately every two weeks, you will change aligners until your teeth are fully straightened. Treatment for adults takes an average of 12 months, while treatment for teens varies.

Most people are good candidates for Invisalign. The process works both for patients new to teeth straightening, and those that have previously had braces. It is possible to first use braces and then move to Invisalign as well. There are some patients who will not be able to use Invisalign, however, including patients with bridges and patients with severe misalignment.

The Invisalign Process

Our family dentistry team can take you through the entire Invisalign process – from start to finish. After a thorough exam, we will create a detailed map of how we will use aligners to shift each individual tooth. You can see what the treatment process will involve before you ever put in your first aligner.

After your visit to your dentist near Kitchener, you can start wearing your first aligners right away. Every two weeks or so, you will move on to the next aligners. You can remove the aligners to eat, brush and floss, although it is recommended that you wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day.

Because you can take out your aligners, it makes it much easier to care for your teeth and gums. You also avoid the potential discomfort that the metal wires and brackets used in standard braces can cause.

Are You a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

It is perfectly natural to want straight teeth, and it makes sense to want clear braces if at all possible. But the only way to know if Invisalign is an option for you is to make a visit to the dental office. As your dentist near Kitchener, we are well-equipped to examine your teeth and give you a clear answer on whether clear braces are an option. Even if you cannot wear invisible braces right away, we may be able to create a transition plan where you can begin with braces and switch to Invisalign when possible.
