Dr. J Alexander Smith, D.M.D. 

Dr. J. Alexander Smith attended college at The University of Virginia and The University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he received a B.A. Magna cum Laude in Chemistry. He was awarded his Doctorate in Dental Medicine at Washington University-St. Louis. After becoming a dentist, he entered the U.S. Air Force and completed a one year General Practice Residency in Dentistry. He served in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps for three years. Dr. Smith received his Oral Surgery training at The University of Maryland Medical Center and The University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Smith is board certified and is a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral Surgery.

Dr. Smith joined Dr. W. King Smith in 1994 and has practiced Oral Surgery in Bel Air for 25 years. Dr. Smith is a member of many professional organizations, including The American Dental Association, The American Association of Oral and Surgeons (AAOMS), The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons, The Maryland State Dental Association and The Harford-Cecil Dental Society. Dr. Smith has served as president of The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons and The Harford-Cecil Dental Society.

Dr. Smith is an attending surgeon at The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, in Bel Air. He has been an active member of the medical staff for 25 years and has served as the Chief of the Division of Oral Surgery and Dentistry for 18 years. Dr. Smith has been selected numerous times by Baltimore Magazine as a “top dentist-oral surgeon” in the Baltimore area.

Dr. Smith was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He is happily married and he and his wife, Jerri, have three wonderful children and four adorable grandchildren.

Dr. Aaron Vafakos, D.M.D. 

Dr. Aaron Vafakos received his Dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1995. Upon completion of his dental degree, he completed a General Practice residency at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland in 1996. He received his certificate in Oral surgery in 2000 from Woodhill Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. After completing his training he joined the Oral Surgery practice of Mitcherling, Mitcherling & Johnson, Bel Air, Maryland where he practiced until 2006.  At this time he joined Broadway Oral Surgery, Bel Air, Maryland where he continues to practice.  He has been an active member of the American Association of Oral sureons since July 2000.  He is also a member in good standing with The American Dental Association, The Mid Atlantic Society of Oral Surgeron, The Harford Cecil Dental Implant Study Club, The Maryland Dental Asociation, and The Maryland Society of Oral Surgeons.  Dr Vafakos has been a member of the medical staff at The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for over 15 years.  Dr. Vafakos is well respected by the dental community and his patients.  He was featured in the Aegis newspaper by a patient who was extremely pleased how she was treated by Dr. Vafakos and his staff.  He continues to practice with a high level of concern for his patients.
