David B. Sutherland, M.D., Gastroenterologist

Dr. Sutherland joined Digestive Diseases Consultants of Kankakee in 1993. He attended Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois where he received a Doctor of Medicine. After medical school, he completed his post graduate training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He finished his medical training with the completion of a fellowship at the same facility.

Dr. Sutherland is board certified in gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Physicians, Illinois State Medical Society and Kankakee Medical Society.

His professional appointments are as follows: Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Midwestern University, Downers Grove, IL. – 2010 to present and Director of Endoscopy Procedure Lab at Riverside Medical Center, 1996 - 2009.

Thomas L. O’Connor, M.D., Gastroenterologist

Dr. O’Connor joined Digestive Diseases Consultants of Kankakee in 1998. He attended Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois where he received a Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Errampalli joined Digestive Diseases Consultants of Kankakee in 2003. He attended Kurnool Medical College in Kurnool, A.P., India where he received his Doctor of Medicine. After medical school, he completed his post graduate training at Kurnool Medical College. He finished his medical training with the completion of a fellowship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Sasso joined Digestive Diseases Consultants of Kankakee in 2008. He attended Des Moines University, where he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. After medical school, he continued his post-graduate education with a residency in Internal Medicine from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then completed his medical training with a fellowship in Gastroenterology from Midwestern University.

Dr. Sasso is board certified in Gastroenterology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (FACOI) and a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF).

His professional memberships include the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Internists, Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, Illinois State Medical Society and Kankakee County Medical Society.

Nikhil Bhargava, D.O., F.A.C.G., A.G.A.F., F.A.S.G.E., Gastroenterologist

Dr. Bhargava joined Digestive Disease Consultants in 2009. He attended medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, IL. He then completed internal medicine residency at McGaw Medical Center at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He finished his medical training with the completion of gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin/Aurora Sinai Medical Center, Milwaukee Campus. He is dually board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.

His professional appointments include Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL and Program Director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship at Riverside Medical Center. He is actively involved in clinical research and trains medical students, residents and fellows. 

He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is also a Member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, Illinois Academy of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Illinois State Medical Society and Kankakee County Medical Society. He is board certified in Gastroenterology 2018 and board certified in Internal Medicine 2015.

Matthew Kaplan, D.O., Gastroenterologist

Matthew Kaplan, D.O. joined Digestive Diseases Consultants in July of 2015. He attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medical Degree. After medical school, he completed his post graduate training with a Traditional Rotating Internship year at BroMenn Regional Medical Center followed by an Internal Medicine Residency at Swedish Convent Hospital in Chicago, IL. Dr. Kaplan finished his medical training with the completion of a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. Dr. Kaplan is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of several medical societies including the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Kaplan is a member of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society. He has specific interest in gastrointestinal motility and interprets and performs motility studies including: High Resolution Esophageal Manometry with Impedance, EndoFLIP, and Anorectal Manometry.

Ashish Shah, M.D., Gastroenterologist

Ashish Shah, M.D. joined Digestive Diseases Consultants in August of 2015. He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicinewhere he received his medical degree. After medical school, he completed his post graduate internal medicine training at University of Michigan and gastroenterology fellowship in University of California San Diego. He finished his medical training with the completion of an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Columbia University in New York City where he was assistant attending/clinical lecturer at Columbia University.

Dr. Shah is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterology Association.

His interests include a wide range of GI illnesses some of which include irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, treatment and diagnosis of gastro-esophageal reflux disease and Barretts esophagus, colon cancer surveillance and diseases of the pancreatico-biliary tract including pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, cholangiocarcinoma and pancreatic cancer. He also spends part time teaching current residents and fellows.

Nancy Reau, M.D., Gastroenterologist

Dr. Reau joined Digestive Diseases Consultants in 2004. She attended Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where she received her doctor of medicine. After medical school she started her postgraduate training at Ohio State University and finished her medical training at The John Hopkins Medical Center.

She is the Richard B. Capps Chair of Hepatology and  Section Chief of Hepatology, Associate Director, Solid Organ Transplantation at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Reau is board certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is a member of the Association and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases,  European Association for the Study of the Liver,  American College of Gastroenterology and  American Gastroenterological Association. She is current Editor of Chief of Clinical Liver Disease.

Krupa Shah, D.O. joined Digestive Diseases Consultants in 2019. She attended the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. She went on to complete an Internal Medicine Residency a Riverside Medical Center. Dr. Shah then completed her medical training with a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL.

Dr. Shah is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She is a member of several medical societies including the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Osteopathic Association.
