Digital 3D Scanner

The PreXion 3D Cone Beam CT Scanner is a revolutionary dental imaging system that provides three-dimensional, high-resolution dental images. The PreXion CT Scanner provides detailed images with significant and precise information compared to a traditional x-ray film. Prexion 3D is an open-environment scan taken in a seated position, with scanning time less than 40 seconds, and significantly lower radiation compared to traditional CT Scans (up to 95% less radiation).

This computerized technology produces clear and extremely detailed 3-dimensional pictures of the jaws, illustrating the actual makeup of the teeth and jawbone.

What are the benefits of having a digital 3D CT Scan?

img

The CT Scan has numerous benefits, primarily when planning for dental implants. The 3-dimensional scan aids in evaluating the facial bone to assess the feasibility of placing dental implants. Also, the images produced help assess the location of the nerves, sinuses, and nose to prevent involvement when placing the dental implants. This 3-dimensional diagnostic tool helps evaluate any abnormalities or pathology that may be present in the bone.img

Once this three-dimensional scan has been taken it is used to construct a biomodel of the teeth and jaws. With PreXion's clear and 1:1 scale images, accurate measurements assure that the optimum implant is placed. Our patient treatment is enhanced with this powerfully computed tomography technology and its precise measurement tools.

Other benefits include, but are not limited to:

Evaluation of the TMJ (temporomandibular joints)

⇒ Extent of the alveolar ridge resorption

⇒ Sinus location (in terms of height, width, and depth)

⇒ Assessment of relevant structures prior to Orthodontic treatment (determine the presence and position of impacted teeth and wisdom teeth)

⇒ Assessment of the mandibular nerve prior to removal of the impacted teeth especially the lower wisdom teeth

⇒ Evaluation of root canal (lateral canals, 4th canals, accessory canals, extra roots, and periapical infections)

⇒ Evaluation of bone density, quantity, and quality

SimPlant Technology

To complement our digital 3D imaging, our office uses SimPlantimg

software technology that offers a sophisticated tool for accurate planning of implant positioning. SimPlant software is the world's first interactive 3D Implant Planning System for accurate and predictable treatment planning of dental Implants. The position of the dental implant is of particular interest to us, as esthetics and functionality of an implant-supported prosthesis are determined, among other factors, by the implant position in the jaw. By means of a computer and template-planned implantology, we can now achieve esthetic results that could be obtained rarely or not at all with conventional procedures.

No more guessing

SimPlant is precise preoperative planning software that provides an increased level of confidence and an extra margin of safety to our patients.

Good looking results

Real 3D planning allows us to find the ideal position of the implants, while taking into account both clinical and esthetical considerations.

SurgiGuide

img

For safe and accurate implant placement SurgiGuide drill guides are custom manufactured for each patient. SurgiGuide turns the planning into reality and will make every implant surgery more safe and accurate.

SurgiGuide converts the simulated implant's exact dimensions, including width, angulation and depth to a surgical guide. The SurgiGuide will aid us to drill exactly to the planned implant location. Benefits like shortened surgery time and reduced use of materials are just some of the additional advantages of computerized navigation.

Dental Laser

What is a Dental Laser?

The DEKA UltraSpeed CO2 Dental Laser used in this dental office has a handpiece the size of a dental drill. The laser emits an intense beam of light powerful enough to instantaneously vaporize infected tissue and bacteria. This process is so precise that healthy surrounding tissue is scarcely affected. The CO2 laser gives us an exceptional level of control in performing dental procedures.

Why are we so excited about the dental laser?

We find that the laser offers a level of precision that simply isn't available with other conventional dental instruments. Laser procedures eliminate bleeding, making it easier and faster to work while reducing stress for both the patient and the dentist. The laser also sterilizes as it works, helping to control infection.

How will the laser benefit me?

Laser procedures are substantially less painful than conventional procedures. Also, stress is reduced because the laser does not generate vibration, noise or cause bleeding. The need for sutures or packing is often eliminated. Patients who have had laser treatment recover faster and experience virtually no postoperative pain or swelling.

Is laser dentistry a safe, proven technology?

Yes! It has been shown that dental lasers are safe for both children and adults. In addition, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several types of dental lasers for use on adults and children. Lasers have been used in medical surgeries for over 20 years and in dental surgery since the early 1980's. CO2 Ultra-Speed lasers have now become the preferred instrument for many dental procedures. We are well acquainted with the laser and have had extensive and thorough training in its use. The Smart US 20D CO2 laser is FDA approved with 510(k) number K031440.

Will the laser replace the dental drill and other instruments?

Although the laser can be used to perform many procedures now done with other instruments, it will not totally replace current dental instruments. We will be glad to discuss specific dental procedures that are applicable to your course of treatment.

How much does it cost?

For the most part, laser surgery is generally not any more expensive than conventional surgery. Since the laser allows some surgical procedures to go quickly, we are able to absorb the cost of the laser by scheduling shorter appointments. In cases where there is an additional cost for laser surgery it is possible to bill both the medical and dental insurance for reimbursement.

We are pleased to provide you with the benefits of laser dentistry.

This dental office has invested in a CO2 laser system because it offers substantial benefits to our patients. Laser procedures are more efficient and more comfortable than many conventional methods of treatment. Laser surgery, for example, produces minimal swelling and scarring compared to conventional methods, and frequently reduces the length of surgery and post-operative healing.

Laser procedures are generally less painful and, therefore, reduce the necessity of anesthesia. In addition, because the laser is a non-contact instrument, it does not create the noise and vibration associated with dental drills.

Laser dentistry is an exciting technology that may very well provide you with new treatment options. We will be happy to answer your questions and explain how laser procedures can be applied to your treatment plan.

What are the advantages of using lasers in Dentistry?

The advantages are many and include:

Less Pain

⇒ Less or No bleeding

 Reduced risk of infection

⇒ Minimal or No Anesthesia

⇒ No noise (No drilling)

⇒ Faster Healing

A more sterilized environment (laser kills bacteria)

VELscope®

We are now using VELscope, an exciting new technology developed to detect oral cancer! Please read the information below and call our office today to schedule your oral cancer screening!

What is VELscope®?

img

Mortality rates associated with oral cancer have remained unchanged for over 30 years, partly due to the limitations of white light examination of the oral mucosa. This has created a dire need for an improved oral mucosal screening procedure that would make it possible for clinicians to accurately identify tissue changes at and below the surface before they become apparent under white light examination.

In response to such a need, the Vancouver-based company LED Medical Diagnostics Inc. (LED-MD) has developed the VELscope System. It is a technology platform based on the direct visualization of human tissue fluorescence and the changes in fluorescence that occur when abnormal tissue is present.

The VELscope® System Handpiece emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the tissue from the surface of the epithelium through to the basement membrane and into the stroma beneath, causing it to fluoresce. We are then able to immediately view the different fluorescence responses to help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue. In fact, the VELscope®System is the only adjunctive device cleared by the FDA and Health Canada to help discover oral mucosal lesions that might not be apparent or visible to the naked eye.

Under examination with the VELscope®System, abnormal tissue typically appears as an irregular, dark area that stands out against the otherwise normal, green fluorescence pattern of surrounding healthy tissue.
