NEWS ABOUT COVID-19

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. Coronavirus Disease 2019, or COVID-19, is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.  

You may have many questions about how COVID-19 may affect you or your family. We are closely monitoring information from the Newton Department of Health and Human Services, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to remain up-to-date with information and guidelines, including recommendations relative to travelers and to your children. There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
• Stay home if you are sick
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
• Obtain a vaccine against influenza each year

When you call us about a symptomatic patient, our staff my ask you screening questions about exposure and travel. There may be times when they will ask one of the clinicians to call you back to discuss the care of your child. Please understand that we want to provide the best care to you, your children, and all patients in our practice.
