Welcome to Our Practice

Welcome to Pediatrics at Newton Wellesley!

Pediatrics at Newton Wellesley (PNW) was founded in 1996. The practice is comprised of all fully board certified pediatricians and pediatric nurse practitioners. It is our mission to provide a medical home for children and their families from birth through adolescence. We are committed to providing the highest quality health care and guidance for the children we serve.

Our primary location is at the Newton Wellesley Hospital. A convenient place for those nearby as well as families from towns north, south and west of Newton. As of January 2020 we are proud to announce the opening of our beautiful second location in Newton Corner! Newton families and families in Watertown, Belmont and further east into Boston have enjoyed this option. Click here to view the details.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of pediatric care by participating in clinical research (recently published) and mentoring Harvard medical students during their pediatric clerkships.

At PNW we take pride in ensuring that our families know our staff by name. For over 20 years, it has been our dedication to provide the best in preventive and acute care for our patients. We aim to be lifelong partners in your child’s health.

*Pediatrics at Newton Wellesley and Boston Children’s Hospital will always be communities built around respect --- towards our patients, families and each other. We support and believe in the mission of improved global health for all children, and we will continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all who share in that mission, from ALL backgrounds*

CORONAVIRUS UPDATES

(5/25/2020)

Dear Families,

We wish you a safe and happy Memorial Day! We would also like to take this time to CONGRATULATE all of our patients that are GRADUATING from high school or college this year! We are honored to have watched you grow and very proud of each of you!

As Massachusetts begins a slow re-opening, we will continue to follow our safety measures noted below. Our staff will continue to wear PPE for ALL patient/family interactions. We will provide families with masks for the visit. We will continue to check-in patients from your car and a nurse will meet you at the door. See below text in blue for visit procedures.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support! We take your trust in us very seriously. Our goal is to promote safety for our patients and families while continuing to provide the highest quality pediatric care. Our staff remains always available to address any questions you may have.

Dear Families,

April 25 to May 2nd is National Infant Immunization Week!  For over 25 years this week has served as a constant reminder that we have the "power to protect" our children from vaccine preventable diseases that can be life threatening. In this pandemic the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that "doctors prioritize in-person newborn care and well visits and immunizations of infants and young children". A recent New York Times report states that "immunizations are dropping at a dangerous rate, putting millions of children at risk for measles, whooping cough and other life-threatening illnesses".

We feel is is imperative now more than ever that we stay diligent to protect our patients against any such diseases. Please remember that we have designated our One Newton Place office for important well child visits and immunizations! We have put in place a safe check-in process and precautions for your visit (see below). We stand firm in the care of your child and we will be with your family through this challenging time.

Check-in for ALL appointments  will continue to be by phone. Prior to proceeding into the office, we request that you call the office once you have arrived to the parking lot in order to complete the check-in process.  If you are being seen at the NWH location, please continue to call 617-969-8989.  For the Newton Corner location, please call 617-916-2016. Once you are checked in a nurse will meet you at the door and bring you directly into a room to be seen.

*Thank you to the Israeli American Council for providing lunch for us from Bonapita! It was very kind and greatly appreciated!*

Thank you for your continued understanding and patience during this time. For all virtual well visits, please make sure to weigh and measure your child prior to the appointment. It can be helpful for babies to use a piece of string or yarn to measure the length and head circumference! Please also have a flashlight available to aid in examination.

  • We wanted to share this article from The New York Times that we hope will be helpful with your child's sleep patterns during this time.

Given the current pandemic situation, our Newton Wellesley Hospital site will be open 9:00am to 4:00 pm.  The One Newton Place office will remain open 8:00am to 5:00 pm.  As always, you can reach us by phone 24/7.  We are available to perform virtual visits for many well child check-ups, ADHD and asthma management, behavioral health concerns and medication follow-ups.  Please make sure that your child has an active MyChart account.  All patients over the age of 13 have to sign up for their own account using their own email address (Telehealth Patient User Guide). Also, to comply with social distancing, we ask that whenever possible, children being seen in our office for in person visits are accompanied by only one adult. We are here for you and your families during this trying time.  We wish you all the best of health.

People have been asking about testing for Covid-19 in our office. At this time we DO NOT have capabilities to do testing.

Dear Patients of PNW:

We wanted to take this opportunity to update everyone during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Your health is our priority , especially during this difficult time. This message is long but contains a lot of important information.

We are fortunate enough to have two office sites and have decided to split our offices for well visits and sick visits.  All necessary well child visits are being rescheduled to our One Newton Place location and will be seen by our designated providers who will only be seeing healthy well visits.  At our Newton Wellesley Hospital (NWH) location we will continue to see sick visits, as scheduled by our triage nurses. Appointments will be spaced to allow for proper cleaning.  Please be patient with our nurses as they ask necessary screening questions prior to your visit.  These screening questionnaires are frequently updated based on recommendations by our colleagues at Children’s Hospital Boston.

We want to share some exciting news as we continue to practice social distancing – we now have the ability to schedule Telehealth “virtual” office visits.  The majority of our encounters will still need to be in-person.  Most aspects of the physical exam are better completed in-person for both well visits and sick visits, and especially if vaccines need to be administered.  We have, however, already begun some Telehealth visits and look forward to meeting some of your child’s healthcare needs without requiring an in-person office visit. Some examples of medical complaints and visit types that can potentially be completed via Telehealth include medication checks, evaluation of rashes, headaches, constipation, asthma follow-up, general developmental or behavioral questions/concerns, mild respiratory illness and minor injuries. Our triage nurses will help decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not a virtual visit via Telehealth is appropriate, and if not, we remain available to see your child in-person.

Here is an updated Telehealth Patient User Guide

Due to Covid-19, Governor Baker has ordered that all health insurers must cover Telehealth visits, so rest assured your visits will be covered in the same way as your in-person visits.

If you have not already signed up, we encourage you to sign up for MyChart (our electronic health record portal). You will need to have access to MyChart in order to participate in a Telehealth virtual visit.  To begin the process of signing up for MyChart, please click herePlease note that all patients that are 13 years or older MUST have their own mychart account to be able to access a virtual visit.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL OF OUR PATIENTS WITH A HISTORY OF ASTHMA, WHEEZING OR FREQUENT RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES – WE ARE UNABLE TO GIVE NEBULIZER TREATMENTS IN THE OFFICE.  Instead we encourage you to schedule a virtual visit with one of our providers to review/create an action plan in response to your child’s respiratory illness. We will begin reaching out to our asthma patients to schedule appointments to review asthma action plans and make sure you are set for the upcoming season with all of your prescriptions.

We take your trust in us very seriously. Our goal is to promote safety for our patients and families while continuing to provide the highest quality pediatric care. Our staff remains always available to address any questions you may have.

Thank you,

The Entire Staff at Pediatrics at Newton Wellesley
