According to Dr. Busch and Dr. VanYperen, “Independent observation has revealed that before DIAGNOdent, when dentists used a pointed instrument to look for soft, diseased spots in a tooth’s surface, quite often we were actually just pin-pointing weak areas in the tooth’s outer layer, the enamel. So it now seems, when the dentist exerted pressure on the probe, it popped through the enamel into the dentin below. Doing so introduced oral bacteria into the interior of the tooth, where it would start to decay. DIAGNOdent resolves that problem.”
