Dental Crowns in Hilliard, OH
A dental crown procedure is a common restorative treatment used to cover a damaged or weakened tooth. Crowns restore the tooth’s strength, function, and appearance, providing long-lasting protection.
A tooth may require a crown if it is severely damaged, weakened, or decayed. Crowns are used to restore teeth that have large fillings, cracks, or fractures, protecting them from further damage. They are also used after root canal treatment to strengthen and restore the tooth’s function. Additionally, crowns can improve the appearance of misshapen or discolored teeth, providing a natural-looking and durable solution to maintain a healthy, functional smile.
Types of Crowns
Dr. Reid offers Emax and zirconia, which are both popular materials used for dental crowns, but they differ in their composition, strength, and appearance. We also offer solid gold crowns as well.
- Emax Crowns: Made from lithium disilicate glass ceramic, Emax crowns are known for their excellent aesthetics. They are highly translucent, making them a great choice for front teeth, as they closely resemble natural tooth enamel. While Emax crowns offer a natural look and good strength, they are less durable than zirconia and are typically recommended for areas with less chewing pressure.
- Zirconia Crowns: Made from a strong, durable ceramic material called zirconium oxide, zirconia crowns are known for their exceptional strength and resistance to wear. They are ideal for molars or areas that experience heavy biting forces. Although zirconia is less translucent than Emax, newer versions have been developed to mimic the appearance of natural teeth more closely. Zirconia crowns are highly durable, making them a good choice for patients who need long-lasting restoration.
Crowns at Hilliard Dental Associates
The crown process involves two visits to our Hilliard dental office. During the first visit, Dr. Reid prepares the tooth by removing any decay or damage and reshaping it to ensure a secure fit for the crown. An impression of the tooth is taken, which is sent to a local dental lab to create a custom crown. While waiting for the permanent crown, a temporary one is placed. In the second visit, the temporary crown is removed, and the permanent crown is carefully placed and adjusted for a perfect fit.
At Hilliard Dental Associates, Dr. Reid and our team work very hard to ensure that your crown is perfect for your smile. We will make sure that you are happy with the fit and color, and will do what it takes to get it right without pressuring you to accept a crown you are not fully satisfied with.
