Dental Staff

All professionals at JOHN R. STRIEF, D.D.S. maintain the highest levels of accreditation and pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest trends in the medical field. Read on to learn more about our staff's experience and training.

Dr. Strief was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Drake University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Having always known he wanted to be in the healthcare field, he decided to pursue dentistry. Dr. Strief attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where he received his doctoral degree in 1974. Immediately after graduating, Dr. Strief furthered his education with a residency in periodontics at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. His residency provided him with advanced training and a background in dental research.

In 1976, Dr. Strief took over the practice of Dr. Herb Scott and has been operating that practice under John R. Strief D.D.S. ever since. The office was moved four times from downtown Iowa City to our present location in Coralville.

Dr. Strief looks forward to serving Iowa City/Coralville and the surrounding area for a lifetime! He is constantly refining and updating his skills to provide his patients with the latest advancements in dentistry. Dr. Strief maintains memberships with American Dental Association and Iowa Dental Association.

When Dr. Strief is not practicing dentistry, he enjoys spending time with his family. Dr. Strief’s hobbies include golfing, tennis and working on his favorite cars.
