Texas VFC Program

KAP VFC (Texas Vaccines For Children) Program

Q: What is VFC?
A: The Texas Vaccines for Children Program (TVFC) offers vaccines at no cost for eligible children through VFC-enrolled doctors/clinic.

Q: What are the benefits of VFC?
A: We are able to provide recommended vaccines to eligible patients: underinsured/uninsured children, reducing referrals & wait times to public clinics for vaccination. You save money on vaccine purchasing because they are federally funded at not cost to you. You receive timely information & top notch care regarding immunization recommendations through an experienced provider.

Q: Which children are eligible?
A: Infant - 18 yrs of age who meet one of the below criteria are eligible for the VFC program/vaccines.

*NOTEChildren 19 yrs+ do not qualify for the program or if the child is enrolled & turns 19 yrs they would be removed from the VFC program due to our level of certification does not cover children 19 yrs+*

Uninsured: A child who has no commercial (private) health insurance.

Under-insured: A child who has commercial (private) health insurance, but the coverage does not include vaccines.  (VFC-eligible for non-covered vaccines only)

American Indian or Alaska Native: As defined by the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (25 U.S.C. 1603)

*NOTE: Children whose health insurance covers the cost of vaccinations or partial cost of vaccines ARE NOT eligible for VFC, even if/when a claim for the cost of the vaccine and its administration would be denied for payment by the insurance carrier due to the plan's deductible had not been met*

Q: What is the cost of the vaccine?
A: If your child meets one of the VFC eligibility criteria listed above, the vaccine is free of charge.  However, there is an “administrative fee.” An administrative fee is similar to a patient’s co-pay, in that it helps the providers offset the cost of doing the program. The administrative fee is $14.00 PER SHOT at the time of service.  You will be required to fill out a vaccine form for EACH visit which is required by the state.

Q: What is the cost of the office visit?
A: The office visit is set up as a “Well Visit” which your child will be evaluated at the time by a provider.

1. New/Existing Patient Office Visit - $120.00

Q: What vaccines are provided? What diseases are prevented?
A: There are many single and combination vaccines that are licensed in the US and that protect children against 16 preventable diseases. The vaccines available through the VFC are determined by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). CDC, as the administrator of VFC, purchases and distributes the vaccines. VFC covers any vaccines included in the immunization schedules:

Children Infant – 6 Years Old

Children 7 – 18 Years Old
