We Treat the Following Conditions of the Feet:

Heel Pain
Heel pain commonly occurs on the bottom of the heel (called plantar fasciitis) or at the back of the heel (called Achilles tendonitis). Both are traced to injury and inflammation.

We treat heel pain by first gathering key information about you and the pain.  A plan is created to resolve the pain.  We have these specific treatments:  low-level (cold) laser therapy, shock wave therapy, ultrasound therapy, taping, stretching exercises, stable footwear and comfortable custom-made orthotics, etc.

Causes of heel pain:  excessive inner arch drop of foot, excessive tension of tendons and plantar ligaments, too flexible footwear (e.g. flip-flops), too hard footwear (e.g. safety shoes), excessive time spent on feet, overweight, tight muscles, aging, different leg lengths, compressed nerve, etc.

Flat Feet
Having flat feet is a common condition. In infants and toddlers, the inner long arch is not developed and flat feet are normal. The arch develops in childhood, and by adulthood, most people have developed normal arches. But those who remain flat footed may develop common foot deformities, toe deformities, pain, tiredness and lack of strength. Read more on flat feet.

Corns and Calluses (hard dead skin)
Corns and calluses are layers of dense dead skin cells. Calluses are mainly flat and corns are mainly round areas of this dead skin. Their cause is repeated stress (friction and/or excessive pressure) on the skin. Poorly fitting shoes and inborn misaligned bones are the major contributors. At our clinic, we gently remove them and give you advice on how to stop or deal with their return. Read more on corns and calluses .

Diabetes and Your Feet
With a diabetic foot, a hard piece of skin (like callus or a corn) may lead to a longstanding wound. Diabetes decreases blood flow and weakens the immune system, so injuries are slow to heal. Read more on diabetes and the feet.

Athlete's Foot
A chronic skin infection caused by various types of fungus, Athlete's foot (also known as "Hong Kong feet" in Asia) is often spread in places where people go barefoot such as public showers or swimming pools. Athlete's foot can lead to fungal nails. Prevention of re-infection is key. Click Read more on athlete's foot

Bunions
A bunion is an outward protruding 1st toe joint, where the great toe slants inwards. It may become swollen and tender, causing pain. Read more on bunions.

Hammertoes
A hammertoe is a deformity of the second, third or fourth toes. This toe is bent at the middle joint, resembling a hammer. Left untreated, hammertoes can become inflexible and require surgery. For comfort our clinic offers soft toe crest pads and straps available for purchase. Read more on hammertoes.

Dry, Scaly Skin
Cracked heels and scaly skin on the feet should be routinely but delicately removed. At our clinic we have many happy customers who come solely for this. Special creams are available to purchase at our clinic to maintain the restored skin.

Ingrown Nail
An ingrown nail is a nail whose sides dig into its neighbouring flesh, which may become very painful and cause an infection.  They are sometimes created by improper or incomplete nail trimming. They may also develop from wearing tight shoes, from injuries, or even fungus. Some are present at birth, being very wide or highly curved. If left untreated, they may cause pain, swelling, bleeding, redness, and infect skin.  The skin may swell and grow over the ingrown toenail into a large mass. Treatment options depend on the severity and type of nail. In most cases, treating ingrown toenails is simple: soak the foot in warm, salted water twice a day and visit your chiropodist to have the nails carefully trimmed and cleansed. Antibiotics (topical cream or oral pills) may be advised. For others, a long term solution of nail surgery is advised. And for many a new alternative is nail bracing. Nail bracing is a way of correcting the shape of a highly curved nail back into a flatter nail gently. Ms. Chow is medically trained to use the new Onyfix device for Ingrown Nail Correction.
