Beth E Sturgill

Beth earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in nursing with honors from the University of Kentucky. She is board certified as a Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is also a Certified Lactation Counselor by the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. She has over twenty-five years of experience in pediatric intensive care, didactic and clinical instruction as well as primary care, both in the private and public sectors in Lexington. She is excited to be a part of PAA and in addition, help moms in the Bluegrass meet their breastfeeding goals.

What are your hobbies?

-Watching UK basketball and football with her husband and 4 children

-Volunteering for her children’s schools and sports

Advice for expecting parents?

Prepare but know that babies don’t need very many material things. You will receive a lot of advice but when the time comes, you will know what works best for you and your baby.

Advice for new parents?

Take a deep breath, enjoy the ride and have confidence in yourselves. Allow yourselves some grace and treat each day as a success.

Advice for parents of teenagers?

Treasure the moments they need you and treasure the moments they don’t. They are becoming independent which is your goal!! Focus on their character not their achievements. Lastly, be their parent not their friend. They have plenty of friends. They look to you for the rest. Be there for them.

Most important thing I have learned about being a parent myself:

Show up! They remember that more than the things you bought them. Experiences equal memories. Love them through all their accomplishments and all of their failures.
