Ablative Fractional Resurfacing May Help Improve Debilitating Scars.

Once upon a time, the most efficient way to remove scars was an ablative laser, which literally "zapped" the scars away.  However, this was not a gentle or easy procedure, to be sure.    While it could be done safely, damage to surrounding tissues was extensive, the potential for complications was high and recovery was slow and painful.  However, that was then.  Today we have advanced fractional ablative lasers that are much more gentle and can be easily adjusted to give providers precise control over the ablation process.

This week Dermatology Times, highlighted an interview with Dr. Peter Shumaker who authored a  Dec. 11, 2013 JAMA Dermatology article, “Laser Treatment of Traumatic Scars With an Emphasis on Ablative Fractional Laser Resurfacing: Consensus Report.”

Dr. Shumaker believes, as do we, that “ablative fractional resurfacing and other related procedures could potentially help improve the lives of millions of patients worldwide who suffer from debilitating scars.” While “the procedure is not without risks, in our experience a conservative approach to treatment has resulted in an extremely low rate of complications,” he says. That has  been our experience too.  So, we are now making fractional ablative lasers available to you.

The same lasers can be used for facial rejuvenation and skin resurfacing all over the body, as well as for the specific treatment of scarring.   Call for a cosmetic consultation to learn more.
