The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Friday that fraudulent versions of the wrinkle treatment Botox, which is made by Allergan Inc and also used to treat headaches, underarm sweating and overactive bladder, are being sold in the United States.

The FDA said in an alert posted on its website that the outer carton of the fraudulent Botox is counterfeit, and the vial inside is foreign and not approved for sale in the United States.

We have been solicited on several occasions to purchase "Botox" from a third party at significantly reduced cost, so we knew that this stuff was out there. Please know, however, that we are not easily fooled and we don't play games with your welfare. We have never purchased Botox from any source other than directly from Allergan. Nor, will we, ever. As an aside, it might interest you to know that when you participate in the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards Program, Allergan asks us to furnish them with the lot numbers from the product used in your treatment. That is further assurance that the Botox you have received is genuine.
