Traditional Dentures

Explore the Unique Advantages of Implant-supported Dentures

Living with missing teeth can detract from your confidence, allow surrounding teeth to shift, and make you more vulnerable to oral health complications. Traditional dentures are durable prostheses that feature a gum-colored base and artificial teeth to restore the function and appearance of a smile after tooth loss. Patients who suffer from missing teeth can turn to Dr. Andrew I. Brafman for custom-made traditional dentures. At our West Orange, NJ, practice, we will work with you to understand your unique needs and goals and develop a custom treatment plan to achieve them. Benefits of Traditional Dentures

raditional dentures have helped millions of patients enjoy a smile with renewed strength and aesthetic appeal. If you are missing teeth, traditional dentures can help you by:

  • Enhancing the look of your smile by filling in gaps created by tooth loss
  • Restoring balance to your bite so you can properly chew and speak
  • Preventing teeth from shifting position

Traditional dentures are also more affordable than implant-supported dentures, and they do not require oral surgery.

Who Is a Candidate?

Traditional dentures are versatile restorations that are available with very few restrictions. A partial denture is used to replace several missing teeth, while a complete denture is used to replace an entire dental arch. To evaluate your candidacy and begin planning treatment, we will first assess your teeth and gums, review your dental records, and discuss your concerns. Candidates for traditional dentures should have good oral hygiene and overall health. Extensive denture use can lead to complications with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, so we can discuss your unique situation and review potential treatment options during your initial consultation. Additionally, Dr. Brafman will need to perform any necessary extractions and treat existing decay or periodontal (gum) disease before providing your partial or complete denture.

Creating Your Traditional Denture

To begin treatment, Dr. Brafman will take detailed impressions of your teeth and create a 3-D model. This information will be sent to our advanced partner lab, where experienced technicians will create your complete or partial denture. This process typically takes about two weeks, during which time we can provide a temporary denture for you to wear. Once your denture is ready, you will return to our office to ensure a proper fit. After performing any necessary adjustments, you can enjoy a beautiful smile and strong bite. Dr. Brafman will see you for follow-up visits to ensure that you are satisfied with your prosthesis. With proper care, your traditional denture can last for more than a decade.
