Periodontal Therapy in Frederick, Maryland

Periodontal disease affects the tissues and bone that support your teeth. It is possible to have periodontal disease without any apparent symptoms. This is why regular dental care and periodontal exams are so important. Warning signs of periodontal disease include red, swollen, tender or bleeding gums; halitosis (persistent bad breath); receding gums lines; and loose teeth or pus around the teeth and gums. In addition to tooth loss research shows a link between periodontal disease and other health issues such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and respiratory disease.

There are several ways to treat periodontal disease depending on the extent of the disease. The first non-surgical step that can be performed at our office is scaling and root planning (deep cleaning), where plaque and tartar are removed from beneath the gum line. We can also refer to the periodontist if the patient has extensive periodontal disease. However the easiest way to treat periodontal disease is prevention by practicing good oral hygiene habits at home on a daily basis
