Laser Dentistry

While dental lasers have been around since the 90’s, they have certainly come a long way since then. Who knew that laser dentistry would become such an easy way for us to perform many of our traditional dental procedures safely, less invasively and often with fewer side effects? Lasers have offered the dental world a load of benefits that you’ll be able to enjoy the next time you visit our office.

How are dental lasers used?

This is a great question! Perhaps you’ve already had a dental procedure done using lasers and you didn’t even realize it. Lasers can be used for a host of different dental treatments including:

  • Performing biopsies
  • Whitening teeth
  • Hardening dental resin (for dental bonding, fillings and veneers)
  • Treating root canal infections
  • Reshaping and contouring gums and bone tissue
  • Treating gum disease
  • Removing excessive gum tissue
  • Exposing partially erupted teeth
  • Reducing canker and cold sore pain

What are the benefits associated with laser dentistry?

You’ll enjoy a multitude of advantages when we use laser dentistry over traditional methods. In fact, sometimes the laser is able to completely eliminate the need for a drill or even anesthesia. For many of our patients, not needing to get needles prior to treatment is a major plus.

Lasers are also very precise instruments, more so than regular manual instruments. This means it can target and treat problem areas more accurately and efficiently. And just in case this wasn’t enough, laser dentistry can also reduce your recovery time. That’s right! Since laser dentistry is more precise it can reduce the chances of post-procedural bleeding and discomfort and improve your healing time.

Dental lasers are also completely safe when used by one of our trained medical staff. Before you receive laser dentistry we will provide you with protective eyewear to wear during your treatment (just as you would wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun while outside).

If you want to know whether dental laser treatment is right for your smile then ask our dentist Dr. Mata, today. Call (312) 263-6793 to schedule your next visit.
