Bite Appliances and Night-guards for Clenching, Gr

dr4

Many people are unaware that they grind their teeth because they do it while they sleep. The clenching and grinding (bruxism) may be quite audible and can disturb sleep partners. Many times we discover unusual wear spots on their teeth which lets you know you have this condition. Bruxism can start at any age and may cause people to awaken with a headache, earache or toothache. With this, facial muscles may be sore, or make jaw joints tender. A custom fitted night-guard may be decided upon to help alleviate this problem.

Besides causing discomfort, grinding can eventually damage dental restorations and may loosen teeth. Bruxism can also lead to Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction or TMD. In severe cases, we may recommend that you see a physical therapist, oral surgeon or orthodontist for further diagnosis and treatment.
