254nm wavelength light is called UVC. This wavelength, while found in space, is not encountered on Earth's surface. It is used when the room is not occupied because of the hazard to skin and eyes. It creates a very pungent odor which has been attributed to the ozone it creates. Ozone created also helps to decontaminate and is evacuated out of the room via negative pressure. The small amounts that may be detected are deemed to be no hazard. Ultraviolet light in the 254nm wavelength is germicidal.
