This patient is an active 85 year old male. He noticed symptoms of leg pain after walking short distances, which lead to a decrease in his daily activities. The patient sought care from his local vascular surgeon who discovered a severe blockage in the artery behind the knee known as the popliteal artery. The vascular surgeon attempted to open the blocked artery on two separate occasions, without success. The patient then consulted with Dr. McGuckin at Pennsylvania Vascular Institute. Despite the complexity and challenges associated with this patient's procedure, by utilizing advanced techniques Dr. McGuckin was able to open the blockage in the artery. We are pleased to report that this patient has regained his previous level of activity.
The images to the right demonstrate the arterial blockage and subsequent restoration in blood-flow, post procedure.
