Myofascial Release

Most people don’t realize that chiropractic care is a little more complex than simply getting a very relaxing massage. Our chiropractors here at Sports & Spinal Wellness Center provide a wide range of manual therapy techniques designed to improve mobility and musculoskeletal health while also alleviating certain symptoms such as chronic pain. Myofascial release is one of the popular manual therapy techniques that we offer here in Albany and Guilderland, NY.

What is Myofascial Release?

This specific type of massage therapy is performed by our chiropractic team when people are dealing with chronic myofascial pain. When the myofascial tissue becomes tight or sensitive, this can often lead to a condition known as myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial tissue is the tissue that provides support for the muscles of the body. When knots or tension develop within the myofascial, this is known as trigger points. These points of extremely sensitive muscle can be painful to the touch and even cause a limited range of motion.

How does Myofascial Release Work?

During your myofascial release session, one of our chiropractors will apply gentle pressure to the tissue to massage it and loosen tension and break up knots. Through various stretching and massaging techniques, we can help to target and release painful trigger points. The purpose behind myofascial release is to provide pain relief throughout the body.
