The Science of Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback

If neurofeedback treatment would benefit you or your child, Dr. Renee Clauselle and Dr. Francyne Zeltser of Child and Family Psychology, located in Franklin Square, NY, are available for a scheduled appointment to discuss these options in treatment.

What Is EEG Biofeedback?

This therapy, also called an electroencephalogram or an EEG, offers immediate feedback during treatment. Treatment consists of a patient wearing headsets or earbuds and electrode pads on the head. These devices monitor a patient's brainwaves during activity, much like if you were playing a video game, watching a program, or listening to music on a computer.

The electrodes monitor brain wave activity and work with the computer to direct the brain into favorable patterns. When the brain chooses the correct patterns, the computer will offer instant and encouraging feedback, which, over time, causes the brain to produce more positive reactions.

This type of therapy is excellent for helping the brain create more positive pathways so that patients can shift their thinking from negative thoughts to more positive thoughts.

Receiving neurofeedback treatment at Child and Family Psychology, located in Franklin Square, New York, would be an affordable and painless option in your or your child's mental health journey.

Positive Outcomes in EEG Biofeedback

Plan on spending 30 to 60 minutes per session for EEG biofeedback. As sessions continue, you or your child may notice improved sleep, increased positive moods, mental clarity, decreased or easily handled stress. You and your doctor would determine the length of these sessions. There are no set rules for how long to use this as a therapy tool.

Discussing with your doctor regarding the length of treatment, making sure they are certified to provide this treatment, and asking if they have dealt with your issues in therapy are important to the success of the optimal outcome.
