Dr. Kerry Featured as a Medical Mom

This article appeared in Glancer Magazine in January 2014 featuring medical moms in the Western Suburbs.

Kerry Virginia Sheehan, D.O. FAAP

Downers Grove Mom of Three

With three children under the age of 6, plus one more on the way, this west suburban medical mom knows little something about the triumphs and tribulations of caring for children.

“I have continuing medical education classes 24 hours a day, “ says Dr. Sheehan of Downers Grove Pediatrics.  “I understand where my patients’ parents are coming from because I have first-hand experience with breastfeeding, sleepless nights, toilet training, etc.”

She enjoys mentoring new moms and is a great go-to person in the neighborhood when little Johnny falls off his bike or Susie’s ears hurt.  Dr. Sheehan always brings 110% to everything she does; and although, as a working mom, she cannot attend every school function and every medical conference, she cherishes the quality time at home with her children.

“Also, since I regularly work Saturdays, my husband has the opportunity to have dedicated daddy time!”  Dr. Sheehan is active in her church and children’s school, and since the Newtown tragedy has also become more involved in fighting gun violence while speaking to elected officials as a concerned mom and pediatrician.  In the future, when her kids are older, she dreams of participating in medical mission trips.
