We pride ourselves in being an exceptional clinic where children come first. Our child-focused practice works hard to meet the needs of children from infancy through adolescence. Compassionate, knowledgeable and supportive staff is the cornerstone of Downers Grove Pediatrics's quality care. All of our pediatricians and medical staff are highly trained professionals, and maintain the highest level of accreditation in pediatrics to address the special needs of infants, children, and teens.

graduated from Osmania University in Hyderabad-India. She joined the practice in 1990 after completing her residency and served an additional year as chief resident at Rush Presbyterian-St . Luke’s in Chicago. While at Rush she helped run the Autoimmune Disease Clinic. Her special interests include autoimmune diseases, rheumatology, obesity and newborn wellness. Dr. Akhtar is Board Certified in Pediatrics.

Dr. Nomana Akhtar joins us after working in Detroit, MI. She completed her residency at St. John Children's Hospital in Detroit. Her medical interests include many different areas of pediatrics from newborn to adolescent care and she is committed to working with families to meet their child's healthcare needs. Dr. Akhtar is board certified in general pediatrics.

founded Downers Grove Pediatrics in 1971. He attended University of Santo Tomas, Manila in the Philippines. He completed both his residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, as well as a fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology. Dr. Cabana is Board Certified in Pediatrics .

graduated from Chicago Medical School in North Chicago. He joined the practice in July 2002 after completing his residency at Hope Children’s Hospital/ Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Dr. Cabana was born and raised in Downers Grove. He is responsible for establishing Reach Out and Read in the practice, a program encouraging the introduction of books and early literacy in children. Dr. Cabana is Board Certified in Pediatrics.

joined the practice in June of 2007 after practicing in the Chicagoland suburbs for six years. She attended Midwestern University /Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove and completed her residency at Hope Children’s Hospital/Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. She was part of the Adolescent Clinic at Cook County Hospital prior to joining Downers Grove Pediatrics. Her special interests include early childhood growth and development, providing guidance to breastfeeding mothers and obesity. She is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Janecek is Board Certified in Pediatrics.

attended Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. She joined the practice in July of 2008 after completing her residency at Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital/Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois and remaining for a year to be chief resident. Her special interests include combating childhood obesity and breastfeeding. Dr. Sheehan is Board Certified in Pediatrics.

attended Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. She joined the practice in July of 2010 after completing her residency at Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital/Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Her special interests include asthma, diabetes, and newborn care. Dr. Swanson is Board Certified in Pediatrics.
