Root canal treatment is necessary when tooth decay penetrates all the way to the pulp of the tooth. The pulp becomes infected from decay and must be treated. Root canal treatment is also needed if the tooth is dying due to aging or past trauma, such as chipped/broken tooth.
Common symptoms may include swelling, throbbing pain, toothache, sensitive to cold and sweets, pain to biting or pressure.
