  • Michelle N. Skowron OD
    Optometrist in Elmhurst, IL

    Skowron Eye Care

Dr. Skowron grew up in the western suburbs. She attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and played competitive soccer. During her last year at Augustana, she developed a passion for eye care and decided to pursue a career in Optometry. Because a Psychology degree does not provide the necessary science requirements to be accepted into Optometry school, she dedicated another two years of college to meet those prerequisites. She was then accepted into three colleges of optometry and chose the oldest institution in the country, the Illinois College of Optometry, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. While at ICO, she was elected President of the Student Illinois Optometric Association. Her areas of interest during her training were managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and emergency eye care. The challenge of successfully fitting specialized contact lenses for those patients who cannot wear glasses is also her passion. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Nick, fishing, snowboarding and traveling. She's an avid dog lover having grown up with all sizes from Shih Tzu's to Great Danes. Her current favorite canine, Fiona, is a cute little Morkie (Maltese /Yorkie).

  • Lavender S. Streiff OD FAAO
    Optometrist in Elmhurst, IL

    Skowron Eyecare

Dr. Streiff was born in Kansas and grew up in Glenview, Illinois. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Pre-Optometry from Augusta College. Dr. Streiff earned a Doctorate Degree and graduated magna cum laude from the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO).

Following graduation, she completed a residency at the San Francisco VA where she concentrated in ocular disease, contact lenses, and low vision.

Dr. Streiff provides comprehensive vision and eye health exams to children and adults at two locations in the Chicago suburbs. She is also a part-time clinical instructor at her alma mater, ICO. By providing eye care and teaching students at the college, Dr. Streiff is able to fulfill her life's goal of helping people.

Dr. Streiff was awarded fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. She is an active member of the American and Illinois Optometric Associations, the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness, and the Optometric Honor Society Beta Sigma Kappa.

You may have noticed or heard that Dr. Streiff’s hours have been reduced. She has recently gotten married and her active duty husband has been transferred to Alabama this year. Since she is commuting back to see patients every couple of months, her schedule has been reduced. Dr. Streiff plans to be accessible for patients that prefer to see her but is fully supportive of all of the other doctors in the practice who are wonderful and more than qualified to see her patients. After several more years of potential travel, Dr. Streiff, and her husband plan to settle back in Chicagoland and her schedule will be expanded. Until then, we appreciate your patience and flexibility.
