Root Canal

Root canal therapy (Endodontic therapy) is a sequence of treatment for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion.

Root canal therapy usually results in the preservation of a tooth whose nerve has been infected thus avoiding extraction.

In most cases, due to the procedure that requires direct access to the nerve tissues and the decay process that destroyed plenty of the coronal part of the tooth, a crown is indicated after the root canal procedures are completed to avoid fracture of the remaining tooth structures.
